Tyrone have named Peter Canavan at full forward for Sunday's Ulster football semi-final against Derry. Canavan came through a fitness test last night despite concern to ankle and back injuries.
However, the Tyrone management have had to replace the entire full-back line that started against Armagh in the first round. That constitutes the only change to the side that dethroned their neighbours.
As expected, Colin Holmes, Michael McGee and Ciaran Gourley step into the breach: Holmes at full back for Chris Lawn, ruled out by a broken bone in a hand; McGee and Gourley for Paul McGurk and Cormac McGinley who both have knee ligament damage.
"It would be easier to accommodate and work around if it was half backs, midfielders or indeed half forwards," said Eugene McKenna.
"The full-back line has become fairly specialised in the type of player that plays in that area. "But we have fairly experienced replacements coming in." Meanwhile, indications from Limerick, Tipperary and Cork are that the Munster Council might be asked to bring forward the throw-in time for the Munster hurling final on July 1st. On the same afternoon, the Irish Open golf event will also be staged in Cork at Fota Island and with both events scheduled to finish about 6 p.m. there is expected to be heavy traffic congestion.
In Limerick, the county board has been told that because of the delay by Croke Park in sanctioning redevelopment work at the Gaelic Grounds, the original tender price of £7.3 million had now risen to £8.7 million. Delegates have accused headquarters of dragging their feet.
