SCHOOLS RUGBY: Campbell College 8 Methodist College 3IT TOOK a second replay before Campbell College could qualify for the semi-finals of the Northern Bank Schools' Cup where they will face Ballyclare High at Ravenhill next Monday.
It was a tightly-contested tie, with both teams creating numerous chances but too many basis errors prevented tries from being scored. Campbell started strongly with a Rob Haldane try in the first five minutes but Methody retorted with an Adam Berry penalty. Later Rory Scholes kicked a Campbell penalty but then Campbell had to withstand plenty of attacks before the interval but their defence held.
Remarkably Methody had two kickable penalties in the first half that would have given them the lead and maybe success but declined to go for goal.
Last week their kicker missed a conversion from in front of the posts that would have given them victory.
In the second half Campbell were seldom out of their opponents’ half but there was no further scoring.
