IRISH interest in the British Boys Open Golf Championship came to an end at Littlestone yesterday as junior internationals Stephen Hood and Mark Campbell were knocked out in the last 16 stage.

Hood went down three and two to the 16 year old European champion from Spain, Sergio Garcia. Garcia was in turn beaten two and one by England's Chris Roake in the quarter finals.

Roake now faces his England team mate, Ken Ferrie, the conqueror of Campbell, in the semifinal this morning.

Campbell, still only 16, was actually two up with seven holes to play, but Ferrie won the 13th and 15th to level the match and then moved ahead after the short 17th.
