The Cork County Board said last night that their decision on the disciplinary measures they imposed on the two Castlehaven players Niall Cahalane and John Cleary would not be made known until tomorrow morning. Both players were mentioned in referee Niall Barrett's report after the replay of the county football final against Beara two weeks ago.

The hearing of the cases against the players was delayed because Cleary was abroad on business and had been called as a witness by Cahalane. Both players were seen to remonstrate with the referee after the match. They were both heard in private by the games administration committee of the board last night.

Castlehaven are due to meet the Tipperary champions, Fethard, in the final of the Munster club championship at Fermoy on Sunday. If either or both of the two players are suspended, it would be a huge loss to the club. Castlehaven beat Laune Rangers in the semi-final last Sunday.

Meanwhile, the former All-Ireland referee P J McGrath was elected chairman of the Mayo County Board last night. The Claremorris schoolteacher and former president of the Connacht Council saw off the challenge of three other contenders for the position which was left vacant by the former priest, Noel Ford.

Among the contenders were Willie Joe Padden, the former footballer, Hugh Rudden and Paddy Naughton. However, both Padden and Rudden were eliminated after the first count leaving McGrath and Naughton in a straight fight for the job.

In a surprise development Pat Fitzgerald, the development officer of the Limerick County Board, has resigned his position just 48 hours after he had been returned unopposed at the annual convention. The reasons for his departure were not disclosed but it is understood that he was unhappy at the passing of a motion relating to Gaelic football at Convention.

Limerick manager Eamonn Cregan will name his team later this evening for Sunday's Oireachtas Cup hurling game against Wexford in New Ross and is expected to include Frankie Carroll and John Anthony Moran, both of whom were excluded from the panel of players to go into training for next season's league campaign.
