Longford T 1 Bohemians 3:BOHEMIANS survived an early scare to book their place in the quarter-finals of the FAI Cup with a fine away victory at Flancare Park, Longford, on Saturday night.

The home side opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Craig Walsh managed to get on to the end of Cathal Brady’s pinpoint cross.

Longford Town dominated for a short spell but couldn’t add to that goal as Thomas Crawley lost his footing when he was about to shoot.

Bohemians were back on level terms nine minutes before half-time; Aidan Downes punished the Longford defence for ball-watching and he made no mistake from close range with a finely-struck volley.

Bohemians took the lead in the 52nd minute when Longford defender Chris Deans attempted to clear the danger but only succeeded in putting the ball into his own net – a repeat of last season’s FAI Cup game against Shamrock Rovers.

Longford had chances to get back into the game with substitute Austin Skelly coming close in the 77th minute but his low drive just went inches wide.

The game was over as a contest in the 81st minute when Killian Brennan found the net with a fine strike from about 25 yards out.
