Neither side will be happy with this result

Neither side will be happy with this result. Waterford will feel they did enough to take full points while Rovers, who surrendered a first half lead, will be disappointed not to have recorded their first win of the campaign.

Rovers opened the scoring on 17 minutes when a cross from the right by Mark Britton was side-footed into the net by Cousins who had arrived unmarked at the far post. Just on the half hour Cousins could have made it 2-0 but his powerful glancing header was just wide of the far post.

Waterford got a dream start to the second half when they equalised inside two minutes. John Power crossed from the right and Dully headed high into the roof of the net. Waterford had strong claims for a penalty turned down on 58 minutes when Gannon appeared to have been floored by O'Dowd but referee Tom Tully awarded a free out and booked Gannon for diving.
