New Zealand's second string ran over hapless Italy in Huddersfield yesterday. Full back Jeff Wilson ran in three tries to overtake John Kirwan's New Zealand record of 35 and out-half Tony Brown scored more points - 36 - than he had in his previous six appearances added together.
In a side with only 11 players who had started against England, Jonah Lomu showed he was as good a forward as he was back. In the dying minutes of the first half he came into the scrum, picked up the ball like a true number eight and charged over from 10 metres out, dragging three Italians over with him.
In the second half Lomu collected the ball on the wing and ran half the length of the field to score a try which made him the top try scorer in World Cup history, with 12.
Italy's only points came from a penalty by Diego Dominguez early in the first half.
