Nowhere does the horses for courses theory carry so much weight as it does at Wentworth - so, it's not surprising to discover the betting for this week's Volvo PGA Championship (with a whopping £1.2 million in prizemoney, a sum only surpassed by the British Open and the Smurfit European Open) is dominated by men who have all enjoyed different levels of success there.

Ernie Els, of course, loves the place. He's won three world matchplay titles over the tree-lined course and, as you'd probably expect, has been installed as 9 to 1 joint favourite with Colin Montgomerie (a player who hasn't won there, although he has been runner-up and knows the course like the back of his hand).

These days on the European Tour, Jose-Maria Olazabal and Patrik Sjoland are always in contention and they are priced at 12 to 1 and 33 to 1 respectively for the event which has a Friday start.

Meanwhile, Darren Clarke, runner-up in the championship last season, is priced at 16 to 1 to make back-to-back wins - but this week's tip is for Ian Woosnam, at 20 to 1, to claim a third Volvo PGA title on a course that brings out the best in him. And, for each-way value, Eduardo Romero, at 33 to 1, is worth a saver.
