Bergen is worth a bet to spring a surprise in the £12,000-added Ngong Racecourse Nairobi Handicap at Doncaster today. The in-form pair of Night Of Glass and Persiano are set to dominate the betting for this seven-furlong contest, but both have caught the serious attention of the handicapper lately.
Night of Glass won five off the reel and when he finished third to Darnaway at Newmarket last time, Les Eyre's four-year-old found himself 23lb higher than at the start of the season.
And Persiano has paid the price for a four-length victory over Safey Ana at Salisbury, being raised 10lb.
Bergen, on the other hand, makes his reappearance here as an unexposed three-year-old. Jack Hanson's colt created a favourable impression on his debut at Pontefract last summer, beating Panama House one and a quarter lengths in a 17-runner maiden.
With eight runners, the race is ideal for a place saver and Bergen gets a sporting nap vote to kick off his campaign in style.
The £30,000-added Tote Credit Silver Bowl at Haydock looks so competitive that it is hard to recommend a serious wager.
Florazi is set to shoulder 9st 7lb and this progressive three-year-old will have his work cut out conceding weight to some useful and, in some cases, unexposed rivals. But the manner of the Arazi colt's reappearance success at Sandown last month suggested he could develop into a Group-race performer.
He made the majority of the running and was bustled along by Pat Eddery to forge clear a furlong out and from then on the race was in safe keeping, easily defeating Wuxi Venture by four lengths.
The winner of his final two starts in good style as a juvenile, Florazi has returned better than ever and is clearly still on the up.
