And the 60,000 fans went away highly contented after Bayern - 4-2 winners in Madrid - won with first-half goals from Mehmet Scholl and Giovane Elber, topped off with two goals in the last 11 minutes from substitute Alexander Zickler. Ivan Helguera replied for a largely incoherent Real.
A goal in either half from Serhii Rebrov handed Dinamo Kiev a potentially life-saving 2-1 victory against Rosenborg to get the Ukrainians back on track.
Rebrov struck in the 32nd minute with a neat header from a corner following a bright opening spell by the Norwegians. Orjan Berg scrambled home the equaliser six minutes later. Rebrov netted the winner in the 67th minute, sliding in a loose ball from the edge of the box amid confusion in the Norwegian defence.
