Staff at the British Department of Employment might have been unaware last month that Bristol Rovers had signed Nigel Pierre from the wonderfully named Trinidad club Joe Public. They have now, however, an opportunity to get a very close look at the striker after the club sent them a player-cam recording of his every move when he came on as an 80th-minute substitute against Wycombe Wanderers in a match last Tuesday night. Rovers are applying for a work permit for Pierre and, said manager Ian Holloway, "we want to demonstrate what a talented player he is and hopefully the camera will provide us with some evidence". When the very same staff first took up their posts could they ever have imagined what interesting challenges lay ahead of them? Hope they know something about football.
