When the inaugural Health & Safety Excellence Awards was launched in 2020, nobody could possibly have predicted how central an issue health and safety would prove to be for all areas of business throughout the course of 2020.
Many sectors, most notably retail and construction, spent much of that year furiously re-imagining their work spaces in light of the heightened health concerns in a post-Covid work environment. And those concerns have continued throughout 2021 and look certain to remain well into the future.
So the announcement that the second annual Health & Safety Excellence Awards is to be held on Thursday, July 29th 2021, is very much one to be welcomed. Some 55 companies and individuals have been shortlisted for the 17 trophies in what is an already expanding event. And, once again, the winners will be announced to a live digital audience at a virtual ceremony, just as they were at last year's inaugural event.

In all, there were 29 individuals and companies who ended up winning or being placed in those 15 original categories. One of which was the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, which won not one but two of the awards on offer.
Their CEO, Alan Sharp, said, “In what has been a challenging year, the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital are delighted to have been successful in two categories. While we are here to care for our patients, the safety of our staff and patients is always a priority.”
In total, there were some 53 individuals and companies who were shortlisted for the 2020 event, a huge number of whom attended the virtual ceremony in November last. And that event was only made possible thanks to the generous support of its sponsors, notably the Fiontar group.
