Space Rock

Disproving the current populist theory that the only decent musical export to come out of Iceland is Bjork, Sigur Ros have been a fixture in the Icelandic music charts for over a year with their latest CD release, Agaetis Byrjun. A contender for album of the year, it shows the quartet's affinity with (for want of a better term) space rock: think My Bloody Valentine's guitar scapes and Spiritualized's spatial melodies, Radiohead touches and Pink Floyd hints filtered through a blender. The last time the band played here it was as a curio piece. This time word has gone out - get there early. Sigur Ros play the Music Centre, Dublin next Thursday.
