Madam, – Why does anyone working in the public sector pay taxes? The taxes they pay only go towards paying their own salary. I wonder would it be more frugal to reduce their salaries and make them tax-free earnings? This would reduce the labour cost of the Revenue sorting out their tax credits and also the payroll cost for implementing the correct tax details for each employee. After all, the taxpayers in Ireland really come from the private sector, as they do not get paid by the Irish exchequer from the tax revenues.

It is fresh ideas that will help this economy – and innovation. Unfortunately it seems to be lacking in the Dáil, with only children squabbling over who wants to be the boss or who is prepared to kiss the boss’s rear end to get a better-paid job. Politics: who knew when you grew up you could behave like a child and get well paid for doing it. – Yours, etc,
