Sir, - The dark cloud of ignorance casts its shadow ever wider over the Irish media. A few examples from the past week or so: an RTE newscaster refers to upper case and lower case Indians. Another of that tribe tells us that the Tanaiste was "not best pleased" about something. The Irish Times, in its coverage of the air show, mentions an F16 Tornado. The F16 is an American fighter, the Tornado a European fighter-bomber. The headline over the Thursday Interview includes "Attlee's 1960s cabinet", while the text tells us the Labour government of that decade was "short-lived". Attlee's cabinet left office in 1951. Harold Wilson's government was in power from 1964 to 1970. Who cares? Why bother with standards? - Yours, etc.,
Oliver Rogers, Rahardrum, Virginia, Co Cavan.
