Madam, – What has happened to our food/agricultural sector? The other day when making soup, I checked the ingredients bought in the local, Irish-owned supermarket. The onions came from Spain, garlic from China, carrots from France, celery from Israel, green beans from Kenya, asparagus from Spain, peas from the UK, cabbage (our national dish) from Spain, while the can of tomatoes and pasta were from Italy. All of these ingredients – with the exception of the last, grow very well in Ireland and should be available here in midsummer. – What does the IFA think? – Yours, etc,
