Madam, - On October 5th Ivor Callely TD launched the Clare Street Initiative (CSI) to try to tackle Dublin's traffic chaos. I contacted the Department of Transport to enquire why the Dublin Cycling Campaign (DCC) had received no invitation to this conference.

Ivor Callely's reply stated that "participation in CSI is on a personal basis rather than as a representative of any agency, company or interest". Yet Mr Callely's own press release for the meeting lists the 34 delegates who attended along with the name of the organisation they represented.

Stranger still, Mr Callely states that "No organisation has been either deliberately or inadvertently singled out for exclusion". This logic would appear to suggest that, equally, those attending the meeting had not been "deliberately or inadvertently singled out" for inclusion by the Minister or his officials.

But to show Mr Callely hasn't lost his humour he ends his e-mail with the line: "I trust the above clarifies the position for you." - Yours, etc,
