Madam, - Apropos Fr Tom Stack's letter about the alleged burning of The Country Girls (July 12th) the conflict of opinions may arise from the reality of two adjacent parishes, with their respective churches.

The sources cited by Fr Stack suggest that no such event happened in Scarriff parish.

However, the O'Brien family homestead is probably in the parish of Bodyke-Tuamgraney, which contains St Joseph's church in Tuamgraney.

This was the church frequented by Edna O'Brien's parents, and is the one with which she seems to identify.
