Sir, - Peter Byrne's article in The Irish Times (January 16th) refers to the possibility of Dublin bidding for the World Athletics Championships in 2003.
The Dublin Chamber of Commerce is currently studying the economic impact of major events in the city. This study will, we expect, show just how valuable major events are to the city and the justification for putting serious resources into bidding for, and organising, such events.
The Dublin Chamber wishes the athletics authority, BLE, and the GAA (which is considering the installation of a temporary running track at Croke Park) well in pursuing such a valuable event for the city. - Yours, etc.,
Dublin Chamber of Commerce,
