Madam, - In response to the opinion of Julia Connolly (June 7th) that US bishops are "courageous" in their confrontation of pro-choice candidates and parties, I have to ask: what is their agenda?
It seems the Catholic bishops are very vocal when it comes to the Democratic Party and Democratic candidates being pro-choice, but much less "courageous" and outraged over the pro-death-penalty, anti-gun-law, pro-Iraq-war, anti-poor platform of the Republican Party and its candidates, which seems to be equally at odds with Catholic teaching.
The bishops pick and choose when to express their so called "courage" and outrage and it seems to many Americans offended by their interference in our political system that the bishops outrage extends to only one party. I think the word "partisan" would be more appropriate than "courageous" when referring to these Catholic bishops. - Yours, etc.,
JANET C. BURKE, Elmhurst, Illinois, USA.
