UNLISTED B&Bs

Sir, - I must take issue with your tourism correspondent, Mr Jim Dunne

Sir, - I must take issue with your tourism correspondent, Mr Jim Dunne. In his article on November 1st regarding the 16,000 B&B premises in Ireland, he refers to 12,000 of these as being unapproved; they are similarly addressed by various tourism organisations.

These B&Bs are not unapproved, for the simple reason that they may have never sought approval in the first place. The unapproved qualifications suggests they are below standard or inferior in some way, or have failed an approval test, and this is not necessarily the case. Maybe they should be classed as unlisted, but their standards should not be quantified by referring to them as unapproved. - Yours, etc.,
