Sir, – Your Editorial of September 7th is, I am afraid, a mistaken call for protectionism. While Diarmuid O’Gorman (September 8th) goes some way towards correcting that point of view, such a policy is short-sighted and could lead to our trading partners choosing, perhaps, to refuse to buy our exports in favour of their own goods.
Since our export trade is doing well, we are informed, now is not a time to risk losing the kindling spark that might help fire our much doused economy. – Yours, etc,
