Brian Cowen and the party faithful are clearly terrified at the prospect of facing the electorate. The latter group do not appear to care whether the positions are filled or not judging by the silence.
So what does it say about the state of our political system? Might I recommend that the laws of rugby be applied in this situation, that is: “use it or lose it”.
By his inaction Mr Cowen is simply confirming that the country can do without the missing three.
What chance we could remove another 80 from proceedings in Leinster House at the same time and so arrive at a number of TDs that is without any doubt more than appropriate to the needs of this grand little country of ours? – Yours, etc,
