Theory Of Evolution

Sir, - Dr Dominique Tassot (July 18th), offers us a fantastic insight into the minds of the creationists amongst us. To use Dr Tassot's own words "a naturalistic origin of mankind and the cosmos continues to be justified by evolution theory". What place has evolution in the ordering of the cosmos? Which of Dr Tassot's carefully argued points give any alternative proposition for the nature and destiny of the universe?

Macro-evolution, fossil records, DNA sequencing and geology have no relevance whatsoever to the cosmos. The billions of galaxies, each containing billions of stars, which illuminate our night sky are testament to the fact that this mighty planet which we call home is a cosmic irrelevancy, a little regarded lump of rock orbiting an average star in the backwaters of our galaxy.

Dr Tassot could do well to pull that weighty brain from the sand (figuratively and literally), and regard instead the majesty and mystery of the night skies. - Yours, etc.,
