Sir, - It is indeed wonderful news to read in Hugh Linehan's article (March 29th) of Louis Marcus' series for RTE on the way we were. It was a brilliant idea by Louis to use as a backdrop for his programme excerpts from the 300 Gael Linn newsreels made between 1956 and 1964.
As well as to Gael Linn for this remarkable achievement, we also owe a debt to Colm O Laoghaire, who brilliantly produced the series, and to Jim Mulkerns, the director of photography. Louis says the series was beautifully shot in luminous black and white, and he wanted to let the people see that the standard of photography at the time was wonderful. - Yours, etc.,
Corbawn Lane,
Shankill,
