Sir, - I refer to the article entitled "The daughters of Grainne Umhaill" (Weekend, October 10th). Your correspondent wrote: "Documentary evidence about her [Grace O'Malley] is scant. . ." I am glad to be able to correct this mis-statement and refer your readers, who may wish to know more about Ireland's great seaqueen, to the biography by Anne Chambers, Granuaile: The Life and Times of Grace O'Malley, 1530-1603 (Wolfhound Press, 1998). The first edition was not out of print in 20 years and this new edition incorporates newly discovered manuscript material.
