Madam, – I accidentally left the lights on in my car while shopping in Dundrum, Dublin, on Saturday, December 11th, thereby running the battery down.

Having a set of jump-leads for just such an occurrence, I asked a number of people returning to their vehicles would they mind helping me. However, not one person would assist. I resorted to calling to a house opposite where I was parked to be told somewhat rudely by the resident that “I shouldn’t have parked there in the first place”.

I eventually resorted to calling a local taxi company, Orchard Cabs, which promptly sent a car and on arrival I had the car started in two minutes.

My thanks to Orchard Cabs for a professional service outside the call of duty. But there was not much sign of the Christmas spirit in Dundrum on a cold winter’s evening! – Yours, etc,
