Sir, - Patrick Comerford's, analysis (April 6th) of recent books on Jesus and the Resurrection might tend to confuse, rather than throw some light on the mystery.

I believe the arguments for the Resurrection are clearer if you list them as follows: (1) Jesus died on the cross as witnessed by the inspired Gospels which are also historical documents. The Jewish historian, Josephus, also mentions the event. It is traditionally" held that St Helena found the Cross in 323 AD, in Jerusalem.

(2) The empty tomb in itself is not a proof of the Resurrection. (3) The four Gospels deal with this extraordinary event.

(4) St Luke, chapter 24, verse 40: "Touch me and see for yourselves; a ghost has no flesh and bones as you can see I have." The disciples had a life experience of the risen Christ. They recognised Him "in the breaking of bread". They saw Him walking, talking and eating with his followers. He was the same Christ, they had known before, yet He was different in many ways.
