Sir, - Tom Reilly (Ocotber 17th) says that "a significant proportion of the Southern electorate, while proud to be citizens of Ireland, have no wish to be associated in any way with either faction in any proposed settlement in the North."

When Eoghan Harris mentions "mefeiners", it is obvious that it is to this constituency to which he is referring. They apparently wish to see an exclusively "British" solution while Pilate-like washing their hands of the 40 per cent nationalist population there.

Mary McAleese's exclusively peaceful and constitutional efforts to ensure that this does not happen are deserving of our praise and our votes. - Is mise,
