The playing of the mighty organ

Madam, - While in Dublin last week I was fortunate to obtain a "return" ticket for a sold-out performance of Handel's Messiah at the National Concert Hall.

Congratulations to all involved: Our Lady's Choral Society, the National Sinfonia, the soloists and conductor Proinnsias Ó Duinn. However, I searched the programme in vain for the name of the organist, whose contribution was invaluable.

The "king of instruments", as Mozart rightly called the organ, was especially effective in the chorus And with His Stripes we are Healed. In the Hallelujah chorus, Worthy is the Lamb and the final Amen the effect was thrilling, as it underpinned and added gravitas to what was going on above - glimpses indeed of eternity! - Yours, etc,
