Sir, - There have been suggestions that Ireland should put in a bid to host the 2004 or 2008 Olympics. Before we do so, may suggest that we ask the IOC to introduce an additional event at which we would certainly sweep the board, bringing home gold, silver and bronze in all classes, both male and female?
We would require no expensive training facilities. All an individual or a team would require is a big mouth and a small, inflexible brain. Our pool of competitors from every trade, profession and occupation, North and South of the border, would be staggering. And the name of the new event? "Shooting Yourself in the Foot".
