Sir, - I have been in your fair country for just six days at the time of writing. I come from Australia, and it is my first time out of the country. I thought the Aussie press was unfair and overly heavy handed with Alan Border (our cricket captain for many years). When we did well in cricket against England, he was our hero; when we did not do so well, he was a disgrace.
The media played out on him so much, that Australians everywhere took offence and rallied for Alan Border and our team. It was said that the media were unable to focus on the spirit of Australia and the spirit of sport we breed. The media learned that the Australian public doesn't mind a bit of a whinge, but we don't like to go on and on. They had their feet (not just one foot) in their mouths and were trying very hard to swallow their legs as well.
Please stop the harassment of that beautiful colleen who tried with all her heart to do her personal best for Ireland and focus (yes, you!) on your attitude towards all of your athletes. They are all winners, and each and every one has done Ireland proud for just getting to Atlanta. - Yours, etc.,
(Proud Australian),
Lakelands Close,
Stillorgan,
