Sir, – When, in 2011, the Queen of England visited Dublin, it was reported that “thousands lined the banks of the Liffey”, waiting for a glimpse of Her Majesty. In reality, those thousands were waiting to be allowed to cross the river, which security considerations had made impossible.
It seems that this Sunday, August 14th, the whole situation will be repeated, to facilitate the “Ironman” event.
As for residents of the Strawberry Beds, they will be confined to their homes for many hours while hairy hominids carry their bicycles past three pubs and up Knockmaroon Hill. – Yours, etc,
