The fine art of cooking an egg

Sir, – Further to "The boiled egg is keeping me from returning to the office ever again" (Róisín Ingle, Life, February 9th), you can actually "roast" an egg. In the dim and distant past, many an egg was roasted at the firesides of rural Ireland. The egg would be placed on the hearthstone, a pinhole having been put in same (the egg not the hearthstone) to prevent it exploding. It was then covered up with hot ashes, and that was it. A perfect roasted egg. – Yours, etc,

MATTIE LENNON,

Blessington, Co Wicklow.
