Sir, - How refreshing it is to read Vincent Browne's excellent column (January 31st). Kneejerk reactionism and media driven hysteria does little to recognise the complexities of crime in contemporary society, and indeed may more likely create the kind of confusion and misunderstanding that will not alone fail to "solve" the problem but manifestly aggravate it. - Yours, etc.,
