Sir, – Mary O’Carroll (October 3rd) suggests that the new measure of beer take its name from the first part of “glass”, and the second part of “pint”, and call it a “glint”.

May I respectfully suggest this is a dangerous road to go down: sooner or later the language will become thoroughly upturned as the realisation dawns that should her concoction be inverted, and the first part of “pint” be combined with the second part of “glass”, we may find ourselves entirely at the other end of the digestive process! – Yours, etc,
