Sir, - One of the many aspects of "social welfare" (a misnomer in practice) is that some people depending, for various genuine reasons, upon such meagre payments are working full time at simply surviving from day to day. This is an exhausting and life threatening occupation with no holidays at all while some people in so called "employment" do very little real work.

The most scandalous fraud we have in this fair land of ours is the fact that £25 billion, received from the EC, has not housed the homeless, fed the hungry or comforted the afflicted to any remarkable extent. is it any wonder that some people might try to take advantage of their disadvantage from time to time? - Yours, etc.,
