Sir, – John Gallagher (January 14th) wittily writes: “In the ongoing debate about the role played by social media in Irish politics, it’s amusing to see confession-going Catholics vehemently opposing the idea of communicating anonymously from behind a screen”.
However, there are some big differences between the confessional and social media. In cyberspace, nobody ever admits to being in the wrong, nobody ever forgives anybody anything, and nothing ever stays a secret. Still, I think it is only a matter of time before I see a church sign that says: “God has sent you a friend request, will you accept?”. – Yours, etc,
