Smartphones on the buses

Sir, – We bus users cannot believe our luck. A new phone app for buses (Home News, September 27th). According to Minister of State for Public Transport Alan Kelly, “. . . now Dublin commuters have a great incentive to leave the car at home”. Is this guy for real? Has he actually travelled on a bus in the last six months? We don’t need a phone app to tell us how late or non-existent our bus is. What we need are more buses and a proper public transport system. Many people I know are doing the exact opposite of what Mr Kelly suggests and going back to their cars because they cannot rely on the buses. Meanwhile Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar is now telling us we will have to pay more money (through increased fares) to take these (sometimes virtual) buses. Less apps and idiotic soundbites and more action and buses, please! – Yours, etc,
