A chara, – One can only presume that the reason Meta is spending such vast sums on reassuring the public that their smartglasses are perfectly innocuous, including full-page advertisements in your newspaper, is that they regard these devices as being integral to their new virtual reality environments but anticipate widespread opposition to them being worn in public places (Letters, May 11th).
If such intrusive technology does become widespread I, for one, would not enter a public house or restaurant unless their use was specifically banned. Let alone a hospital or other medical setting. I note that the technology differs from the “Google Glasses” of a few years ago mainly by being better disguised as ordinary spectacles.
If Meta is so concerned about assuaging public disquiet, perhaps it should consider designing its smartglasses so that it is unmistakable what they are and what they are doing at any given time. – Is mise,
