Madam, - A Government source claimed last week that the army of Cabinet Ministers and their associates were being sent abroad around St Patrick's Day to "showcase Ireland".
If that is the case, surely it would have made more sense for the Government to have sent abroad Irish people who are universally admired.
I have in mind such as John Hume, Seamus Mallon, TK Whitaker, Ronnie Delaney, Eamon Coghlan, Mick O'Connell, Brendan Kennelly, DJ Carey or Mary Robinson. The list is endless. - Yours, etc,

Madam, - In common parlance, St Patrick's Day has manifestly lost out to "Paddy's Day".
Mightn't it be a better recognition of reality to reposition the apostrophe and call it "Paddys' Day"? - Yours, etc,
