Sir, – Minister for Finance Michael Noonan, has appealed to us to shop until we drop to help kick-start the Irish domestic economy.
Isn’t it ironic that to facilitate the infinite growth of the market economy and to promote the euro conjecture, we are exhorted to capitulate to crass consumerism.
In the short-term we can hope that a system which relies on relentless, limitless growth for its survival will help to ameliorate unemployment, in the long run it will cost us the Earth. – Yours, etc,
