Sir, Your report about RTE's new satellite service (May 2nd) states that more than two thirds of the world's population can now tune in to RTE. In fact the new radio service is beamed at Asia, Africa and Australasia where it is estimated that more than two thirds of the world's population resides.satellite dishes and decoders are required to receive the service.

When one takes into account our satellite service (Radio 1 in its entirety) on Astra to Europe and the transmission (4.5 hours a day) on the Galaxy satellite to North America the potential audience grows considerably. Our audio services on Internet and by shortwave, which reach regions outside the satellites footprints attract yet more listeners. Yours, etc., Director of Broadcasting RTE, Developments, Dublin 4.
