Sir, - Robert O'Byrne's report about the sale tomorrow, in London, of the original neo-classical furniture from Headford House, Co Meath, makes for very sad reading. The famous Scottish architect, Robert Adam, designed the interior of Headford House between 1771 and 1775, including the saloon which has been described as the finest room in Ireland.

As was his normal practice, Adam designed the furniture for a particular room, as well as the carpets and curtains. These apartments with their furnishings, executed by native craftsmen, are the only surviving examples by Robert Adam in Ireland. It is, therefore, particularly inappropriate that such a unique ensemble should be removed and sold out of the country. Yours, etc.,
