Sir, – In having a single goose as the main dish in a meal for 14, James Joyce’s attention to detail did not desert him in The Dead (An Irishman’s Diary, September 27th).
Even without the spiced beef and the great ham, an Embden goose at 11kg (24lbs) let alone a 14kg (31lbs) Embden gander, would have left little room for Aunt Julia’s pudding. – Yours, etc,
