Sir, - As an Irish-Romanian living here I took great interest in reading Bob Wylie's article "Romania determined to care for its own" (The Irish Times, January 16th). Unfortunately, it contained several errors obvious to any student of Romanian geography and language.
Mr Wylie claims that the sign outside the orphanage which he visited forbade foreigners from entering. The word for foreigner and stranger is the same in Romanian and such signs are common wherever there is private property. Why does he assume it meant "foreigner", especially as he was not turned away but was received quite cordially? Could it be he wanted to imply that the orphanage was trying to hide something? Furthermore, Arad has always been in the south-west of the country and never in the northwest, while Bucharest has six sectors and not five. Of course as he is so professional in his reporting I am sure that all his other facts are correct! - Yours etc.,
