Sir, – On a number of occasions in recent months I have been disappointed to see the national flag being flown in a disrespectful and inappropriate manner. Perhaps my sensitivity in this regard has been heightened by observing the exact opposite in the case of State visits and funerals of recent times.
On a short holiday in the sunny southeast, and an even shorter one in the not-so-sunny northwest, I noticed a number of flags that were well past their use-by-date, ie flags that were ragged, washed out and in need of replacement.
Some were “flying” from telegraph poles, while others were incorrectly positioned in instances where there were multiple flagstaffs. – Yours, etc,
ERIC O’BRIEN, The Avenue, Broadale, Douglas, Cork.
