Sir, - The Rev J.S. O'Leary is quite wrong to impugn the motives of those who have organised the arrival of the relics of St Therese. I deplore and reject the use of the term "vulgarity" in relation to the visitation of the relics of this saint.
For those of us who need such relics to concentrate our weak and wandering minds, the visitation of these relics gives a great opportunity to the believer for the greater honour and glory of God and should not lightly be belittled.
The challenge to the authority of the church in declaring St Therese a doctor of the church seems to indicate a deep-seated inability of Rev O'Leary to accept the majesterium of the church. Please do not try and belittle it for those who do believe and accept. - Yours etc.,
Jack Norton, Landen Road, Ballyfermot, Dublin 10.
