Sir, - The report by Fleming and co-authors on alternative medicine, presented at the recent WONCA Medical Conference in Dublin and reported by Alison O O'Connor (June 19th) will no doubt stimulate further interest in alternative medicine.
The report, however, highlighted the need to ensure that practitioners are fully qualified. Unfortunately, the chiropractic profession in the Republic of Ireland remains unregistered, one of the few countries in the western world now not to have done so. To this end, the Chiropractic Association of Ireland (CAI) was set up in 1985. It is a voluntary association made up of qualified chiropractors. Qualified, here, means that all members have followed a four to five year university training, that is recognised by the World Federation of Chiropractic, an organisation that is affiliated to the World Health Organisation, hence members, are entitled to work in any country where chiropractice is registered.
If any reader would like to contact a chiropractor in their area who is a member of the association, kindly refer to the CAI advert in the Golden Pages. - Yours, etc., Dr Virginia Cantillon, Chiropractor,
Sports Physician,
Wilton, Cork.
