Sir, - Jim Barrett, Dublin Corporation's chief architect, states (September 18th) that the primary objective of the works being carried out at the Triangle are to "strengthen the village core of Ranelagh".

To date, the Corporation has demolished a Victorian building of enormous potential and removed two public benches, three public telephones and six mature trees from this unique open space in the heart of Ranelagh.

Its proposed plan is, of course, a traffic plan. The planners have effectively removed what has been a landmark in Dublin for generations and are presenting us with a widened footpath and a kiosk incorporating toilet facilities in its place.

I suggest the Corporation's primary objective cannot be realised unless this plan is revised with input from those of us most affected by it - the residents and businesses of the area. - Yours, etc.,
